I don’t know what cave I have been hiding in the past months but only until someone posted a trailer of Rock of Ages film in my network did I actually find out that the musical is in the Philippines, with none other than MiG Ayesa in the lead.

Rock of Ages is a rock/jukebox musical, with a book by Chris D’Arienzo, built around classic rock hits from the 1980s, especially from the famous glam metal bands of the decade. The musical features songs from StyxJourney,Bon JoviPat BenatarTwisted SisterSteve PerryPoison and Europe, among other well-known rock bands.[1]

The show is noted for being more lighthearted and comedic than other shows on Broadway. During performance, the performers frequently break the “fourth wall”, directly addressing the audience and seemingly forgetting (or perhaps reminding the audience) that they are actors in a musical. Manila Music Festival May 1, 2012

The local music scene is one of a kind. Pulsating with energy, passion, and excitement that rivals the world music scene as a whole, Filipino bands, performers, disk jockeys, songwriters, and dancers alike give their hearts out whenever they perform, making them one of the greatest performers in the world.

Despite the huge number of talents, there are not much musical events in the Philippines. Yes, there are quite a number of annual music festivals such as the Pulp Summer Slam and the San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest, which are remarkable, but with the gifts that our talents have, there simply is no excuse not to come up with a bigger stupefying event that will leave the world so dumbstruck they don’t know what they hit them.
