Little Ballet Comes To You – Ballet Classes for Ages 2-5

Friends and their Interests, Music and Arts By February 11, 2013 Tags: , , , , , , , 24 Comments

Finally! A ballet school for kids ages 2 to 5! Yes, I know there are other ballet schools for kids, like Twinkle Toes Ballet and Music Academy and Pink Toes Center for the Performing and Musical Arts, but these schools are either too far away from where we live or have a minimum age of 4. I had, for example, for the longest time, eyed Twinkle Toes because it offered baby ballet, but I found Fairview to be too far. Pink Toes has a branch in Antipolo but the kids have to be at least 4 years old.

So when my friend Miela Sayo started letting everyone know about her Little Ballet school, I was ecstatic! It is specifically for little children, and more importantly, it can be set up near you. Think: “ballet classes come to you!” and I was really happy.

Miela Sayo has been dancing since the age of five. She has trained with various ballet schools both in Manila and in Sydney, Australia. Radaike School of Ballet, Effie Nanas, Air Dance, Sydney Dance Company and Mango Dance School, to name a few. Teacher Miela is also a pre-school teacher, and a dance teacher for children.

Like most of her students, Miela found her appreciation of ballet through one memorable ballet teacher, years ago. Teacher Violeta has inspired Miela to be the best dancer that she can be, through careful instruction and encouraging her little imagination. Miela has grown up to love dance. She never stopped dancing and exploring the performing arts since.

LITTLE BALLET MISSION

Little Ballet strives to develop an early appreciation for ballet in young children through play, encouraging them to stretch their imagination while still mastering the discipline that ballet requires.

LITTLE BALLET VISION

Little Ballet envisions a generation of young dancers who will love the art of ballet. Starting children at a young age, Little Ballet aims to develop dance appreciation in children through creative and imaginative learning.

Little Ballet offers a creative and unique ballet programme for pre-schoolers, ages 2 until 5 years old. The teachers are trained to teach the themed programme in an imaginative and non-traditional manner while instilling ballet techniques and discipline in all our classes.

Little Ballet currently has two classes:

One whole day of *Art+Culture+Music+Dance+Prayers+Ritual+Workshops+Eco Bazaar*

This year we come together once again in celebration of the annual Earthdance 2012 Global Festival for Peace, aligned with the International Day of Peace, held in 500 locations and 80 countries around the world, including the Philippines. Since its inception in 1997 it has become the largest Dance and Peace event in the world.

This year, we’re inviting you to dance your way to a cleaner Philippines. With our city under water after only a few minutes of strong rain, never has it been more obvious that our attitude to trash needs a serious overhaul. It’s time to ditch the junk once and for all and get funky. We have a great line up of local and foreign bands, music and workshops, a solar powered dance-floor, a trash converter and much much more. All proceeds from this year’s festival will go towards the “Litter-Free/Flood-free Country” Project. For starters, we mean to buy enough proper garbage bins to give to every home in Metro Manila. “EarthDance Festival Manila 2012: More Funk, Less Junk.” Let’s get moving!

Step Up 4 Revolution coming to Theaters July 2012

Movies By May 25, 2012 Tags: , , , , , No Comments

I don’t know about dance movies but they just excite me so and I am even more excited with this most recent film in the Step Up franchise. I swear I got goosebumps just watching the trailer.

“Step Up Revolution” movie hits theaters in North America July 27, followed by Australia on August 2 and France, the UK and other European markets on August 8-10. No word yet on when it’s showing in the Philippines.

Emily (Kathryn McCormick), daughter of a wealthy businessman, arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer and soon falls in love with Sean (Ryan Guzman), a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs. The crew, called the MOB, strives to win a contest for a major sponsorship opportunity, but soon Emily’s father threatens to develop the MOB’s historic neighborhood and displace thousands of people.

They may change cast each and every time but I am happy that my favorite character, Moose (Adam Sevani) has been there since the second film. I’m a little sad Claire (Alyson Stoner), isn’t this time around.

Who cares about the plot or the acting? We watch these movies for the dance, plain and simple. All that dancing…. Enough said.

I always go out of the theater feeling all hyped up, moved, if that’s a better term.
