Through the years, I kept thinking I was going to find the original files of these and re-edit them so they’d look “normal”. Yesterday, I renewed my Flickr account after not renewing it for a year. I was too busy last year to take any photos or upload them so I did not see the need to pay the Flickr peeps $25. What I found on my Flickr account were 7,585 photos and 195 sets.
As someone who pretends to be a photographer, I have gone through the usual phases. The first one was my fascination with over-processed photos, high-saturation, high-contrast, as bright as possible, to the point of being unreal. My friends would say, “Nasilaw ang mata ko!” and I would retort, “What? They look normal to me!” That, or my laptop monitor was not color-calibrated.
After that, I went through cross-coloring. The photos taken from my trip to Pangasinan in March 2009, which was about a month before I had Lia the baby, were all cross-colored. I haven’t really been able to post anything before about that trip.
When I looked at my 195 sets, I found the Pangasinan set and realized, they were all done in the current “Instagrammed” trend. How funny.
As someone who pretends to be a photographer, I have been trying to find my own “voice” in the medium. I can’t help but think now that if I had stuck with this style, where would I be now?
