After finally deciding that it was best to let the resort go and leave, the family moved back to Corong-Corong beach, where we rented a small house with a balcony, and 5 meters of beachfront that we turned into a small sunset beach bar. Building was quick and easy and took only 2 weeks. We had a soft opening for friends on December 10 and then opened the kitchen formally on December 15.
The inspiration came from the internet of course. I have always wanted pallet furniture for the beach. I have been thinking about it for months! I was already thinking about it before leaving for Italy and when we were there! The color scheme came from a picture off the internet but due to limited paint colors in the hardware, we settled for aquamarine and royal blue. We wanted everything to be simple yet colorful and relaxing. The idea was just to serve appetizers and drinks – but the menu evolved to accommodate dinner, and our specialty and best seller became the mediterranean pasta and the beer burger – our special recipes! We are also proud of our mango shake and banana shake that guests have exclaimed again and again to be the best in all of El Nido. And of course, our beers. You can ask anyone in all of El Nido, but we definitely have the coldest beers in town, and we are d*** proud of it! We take pride in our super cold beers that we have a “Beer Below Zero” freezer for. I also moved “Happy Milk Tea Day” and the milk teas from the Outventure shop in Serena St. to 1209 Sunset Beach Bar.
Everything is handmade! The furniture was assembled from pallets from Manila, worked on by three carpenters for two days, and painted by me and two of our staff. Lia and I made the square paper lanterns that we hung with lights that were assembled by staff of ACE Hardware in Manila. The rectangle and round capiz lanterns that we hung on our tree for evening illumination were purchased from Quiapo. The capiz and bead string curtains were handmade by me years ago and just found a new home in the bar. The menu was designed with the help of Graphic Stock.
We are of course boasting of the pretty sunsets that we have in Corong-Corong beach. Here are some photos of the many sunsets we are lucky enough to be able to see nearly everyday. If you guys are looking for the sunset in El Nido, it is found in Corong-Corong beach.
Come drop by the bar for some milk tea, cold beers and cocktails, delicious pasta, and your daily dose of sunset.
