It is the first gig for 2013 for these bands and because I have a deep love for The Chongkeys, as we were together for three straight days in January 2012 for their Bicol Express tour, that is enough reason for me to go. I have missed them and I’m looking forward to a fun night!
Wilabaliw played at a bar I owned in July 2011 but I did not really get to meet any of them, except for their roadies Jean Paul and Lemon, at that time. I was up to my ears with work and other concerns at that time to actually hang out with them.
And I am a fan of Top Junk‘s music even before any of them became my friends. (As a side note, hey, I have four Session Road and Top Junk shirts but I have yet to get my Chongkeys shirt! You better have my size now Andrei!)
I am definitely shooting on this night.
But best of all, a friend of mine from grad school whom I have not seen in years is coming too to hang out. She is a big Wilabaliw fan. I hope I do not get too happy puffy (read: drunk) on this night though as the much-awaited….

Travel Factor New Year Party is happening on the next night, with performances from our beloved bands:
Stickfiggas
Coffeebreak Island
The Discoball
Goodleaf
Romcom
Paranoid City
Maude
Travel Factor will be giving away prizes from Victory Liner, Para’Kito Philippines,OtterBox, The HeadWare and of course, awesome trips!.

As one of the ArtisteConnect pledgers, I am looking forward to getting my CD, t-shirt (second one, yehey!) and sticker. And seeing my name on the insert.
Though drummer Eric Po and I are batchmates at the same city, him in the all-boys school and me in the all-girls one, we never really met until that one night at B-Side, after we finalized the plans of their having a homecoming gig at my bar in December 2011.
Brothers Ahmad and Khalid Tanji are also from Bicol and Ahmad had one of the best bands during its time in Legazpi, called The Pepsi Paloma Experiment, and actually went to Ateneo de Naga University, but we have also never met before sometime mid-2011.
They now have Emerald Aquino on bass, taking over Tanya Singh’s duties, and all is good! I met Tanya Singh though before I met any of YIF’s members, she plays bass for Tetas and the Twat, another band of drummer Che Santos, whom I met through Flush and the Toilets, a band composed of then-housemates John Villareal and Repists Roma Regala and Amrei Dizon. Now, Roma and Amrei, we go way back to 2000, when our lives and Kiko Machine’s, The Discoball’s and Matilda‘s lives were more intertwined. Oh, the past is so sweet. Tetas and the Twat, Flush and the Toilets, The Discoball all played at my bar in 2011, while Kiko Machine and Stonefree played way earlier, back when I was still not a part of the bar.
See you guys!!!

Here’s another reason why we should support Original Pinoy Music (OPM) and our local musicians and artists – because they are always willing to lend a hand and support causes.
My friend Ryan Mostar, whom I have been close friends with since we were thirteen is giving his kidney to his sister Kanji, who has been diagnosed in 2006 with IgA nephropathy, also called Berger’s Syndrome, an autoimmune disease that occurs when IgA-a protein that helps the body fight infections settles in the kidneys causing scarring and inflammation and eventually progresses into kidney failure.
For the past six years, Kanji Mostar has been undergoing medication but her kidneys are now only functioning at 12% and a kidney transplant is needed. This November 2012, Kanji will be taking a series of tests, together with her brother, in preparation for the kidney transplant operation. The cost of the transplant operation is far beyond what the family can handle alone and is asking for support in the Raise to 1M Drive. Our involvement, may it be financial, medical, spiritual, will certainly help improve the struggle Kanji is fighting, not just to survive, but live.
I went to my friends and asked them how we could help – and this is how we are trying.
We are organizing a series of fundraising gigs in the hope that it will be able to help in the Raise to 1M Drive. There will be one at Amos Cafe, Anonas QC on Dec 7, as well as on Dec 11 at B-Side, The Collective, Makati. Do support by spreading the word and by coming to the gigs.
Here is the Kidney for Kanji Facebook page for more info: The Official Page of the 1M Drive for Kanji’s Kidney Transplant.

Watch a gig for a cause. Come to B-Side on December 11 and help raise 1M for Kanji’s kidney transplant.

With performances by Gaijin, Fuseboxx, Your Imaginary Friends, Paranoid City and Flying Ipis.
Happening on December 11, 2012 at B-Side, The Collective. Tickets are Php 150, inclusive of one drink. Gates open 9pm.

I was at Balay Tubay* one Friday night when I heard the band play a cover of The Chongkeys‘ Diksyonaryo, and I thought, “Oh wow, I miss the band! I should come see them in one of their gigs when I come back.”
I flew in to Manila from Puerto Princesa on September 13th, and that night, I was at B-Side. Already! Looking really tan and shiny too!
