The local music scene is one of a kind. Pulsating with energy, passion, and excitement that rivals the world music scene as a whole, Filipino bands, performers, disk jockeys, songwriters, and dancers alike give their hearts out whenever they perform, making them one of the greatest performers in the world.
Despite the huge number of talents, there are not much musical events in the Philippines. Yes, there are quite a number of annual music festivals such as the Pulp Summer Slam and the San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest, which are remarkable, but with the gifts that our talents have, there simply is no excuse not to come up with a bigger stupefying event that will leave the world so dumbstruck they don’t know what they hit them. These photos were taken 12th of March at our home in Camarines Sur. Lia was playing with my toy camera from childhood. These days toy camera goes by a different meaning but back then, it was JUST a toy camera. More
I did a major cleaning of my childhood home in Camarines Sur last month. Some of the things I found in my old bedroom, kept in a box stowed in the bottom drawer of my cabinet, are recital programmes from high school.
Recital Programmes, 1997-1999
I disliked having to attend regular music class so I enrolled in a special piano class at our school’s College of Music. At the end of every school year, a recital was held. I can only vaguely recall my recitals and even the pieces I played.
My brother and I have a favorite movie called Sky of Love (2003). (Though apparently it is a remake of another film called Ditto released in 2000). For more information on that, click here to read the review.)
There is a scene there that I loved and it was what inspired this shot:
This photo did not escape my friend Leia’s notice and started a conversation on Facebook. More
For fun, we did a little photo shoot during our stay at the island. Here are some of my favorite photos.
I came up with most of the concepts, described to H how I wanted or would like it to be done, and he took the shots. If there was something he did not get, I would get the camera and show him how I wanted it to look. All the photos were shot in RAW because I love to shoot RAW. I also did the post processing.
Of course some of them were surprising. It always amazes me how an idea when acted upon can produce the most surprising results. You have something in your head, you try to concretize it, but when you are there, though you somehow have an idea how it will turn out, and actually hope it would turn out the way you hoped it would be and yet hope it would come out better; in the end, it’s still always a “shot in the dark.”
A look in a particular direction, a particular tilt of the head, a hint of a smile or even a big, happy smile, little things that make the difference. A ray of light on this side, or that side, or on this particular detail. Little things that make or break it.
I’m not a photographer really. I’m not a model either. I just happen to like nice photos.
Although the first single, “The World As I See It,” was released in September 2011 and was included in his set list for his acoustic concert with Toca Rivera in Manila last October, Jason’s Mraz’s latest album, “LOVE is a Four Letter Word” will be released next month, April 17. It is now available for pre-order on his official website at www.jasonmraz.com.
Though I personally didn’t make it to the concert because of a series of accidents, here is a clip from that event.
I hope I can still get a chance to watch him perform live at some point in the future. (Unlike Amy Winehouse, who I have to admit, I dearly miss.) More
I’m dead bored as dead bored as can be so these past days I have been going through Stumbleupon, Pinterest, YouTube, 8tracks and Wanelo. My Facebook wall has been flooded with status updates, videos, links and images.
I absolutely love Wanelo (Find unique products and stores you’ve never heard of) and here are just some of the items that ended up on my FB wall with my various comments.
Yellow leaves are falling off the tree right outside my window, the wind blows gently, the sun shines through a thin veil of clouds, birds are chirping and flying about on this beautiful morning. My Facebook wall has been flooded with Youtube videos of Train, Adam Levine and Javier Colon, and finally, Dia Frampton – a direct result of watching the premiere of The Voice’s Season 2 and a marathon of the complete first season.
It’s a good Saturday morning filled with music. My veins are throbbing with caffeine and my heart is full. I am ready to fall back into bed with Dia Frampton’s soulful voice in the background as I play her RED album.
If I heard her song on the radio and I hadn’t seen her on TV, I would think I’m listening to another Brit singer – just about my favorite musicians on the planet.
Who wouldn’t fall in love with these eyes? And this voice? And the simplicity written all over her face? I’m absolutely mesmerized. More
