Every February, we all look forward to the biggest musical event happening at the Sunken Garden of the University of the Philippines Diliman – the UP Fair. More than just a musical event, there are food booths and little stores selling all kinds of interesting stuff and offering services like henna tattoos, palm reading, and the likes. There are also fair rides like the ferris wheel and the octopus, among others (but of course I have to say ferris wheel because it is absolutely my favorite ride of all time), and all kinds of booths offering freebies, from condoms to photos, depending on participating sponsors. You get my drift. In effect, we can say that aside from the Lantern Parade, with the corresponding Oblation Run, and our graduations with the sunflowers, it IS the biggest event of the campus every year. One whole week of all these things! How much fun can it get?!
I can say much about the UP Fair, but I will reserve that for the next week when I might be blogging about every single night I am there, or maybe just one or two, depending on my very hectic schedule. Let me say this for sure though, UP Fair 2013, we are so ready for you! Are you ready for us though?

Here are the most updated schedule, line-up, and other relevant information regarding the UP Fair 2013.

Do come back here for updates in the coming days.
One important thing is: the ticket prices are now standardized, as opposed to previous years when ticket prices varied depending on the host organization or the line-up, but this year, every night, the ticket price is Php100. Such an awesome deal that “affordable” could not possibly be more than an understatement.
So, UP Fair 2013, we are really so ready for you! And we know that you never disappoint.

It is the first gig for 2013 for these bands and because I have a deep love for The Chongkeys, as we were together for three straight days in January 2012 for their Bicol Express tour, that is enough reason for me to go. I have missed them and I’m looking forward to a fun night!
Wilabaliw played at a bar I owned in July 2011 but I did not really get to meet any of them, except for their roadies Jean Paul and Lemon, at that time. I was up to my ears with work and other concerns at that time to actually hang out with them.
And I am a fan of Top Junk‘s music even before any of them became my friends. (As a side note, hey, I have four Session Road and Top Junk shirts but I have yet to get my Chongkeys shirt! You better have my size now Andrei!)
I am definitely shooting on this night.
But best of all, a friend of mine from grad school whom I have not seen in years is coming too to hang out. She is a big Wilabaliw fan. I hope I do not get too happy puffy (read: drunk) on this night though as the much-awaited….

Travel Factor New Year Party is happening on the next night, with performances from our beloved bands:

As one of the ArtisteConnect pledgers, I am looking forward to getting my CD, t-shirt (second one, yehey!) and sticker. And seeing my name on the insert.
Though drummer Eric Po and I are batchmates at the same city, him in the all-boys school and me in the all-girls one, we never really met until that one night at B-Side, after we finalized the plans of their having a homecoming gig at my bar in December 2011.
Brothers Ahmad and Khalid Tanji are also from Bicol and Ahmad had one of the best bands during its time in Legazpi, called The Pepsi Paloma Experiment, and actually went to Ateneo de Naga University, but we have also never met before sometime mid-2011.
They now have Emerald Aquino on bass, taking over Tanya Singh’s duties, and all is good! I met Tanya Singh though before I met any of YIF’s members, she plays bass for Tetas and the Twat, another band of drummer Che Santos, whom I met through Flush and the Toilets, a band composed of then-housemates John Villareal and Repists Roma Regala and Amrei Dizon. Now, Roma and Amrei, we go way back to 2000, when our lives and Kiko Machine’s, The Discoball’s and Matilda‘s lives were more intertwined. Oh, the past is so sweet. Tetas and the Twat, Flush and the Toilets, The Discoball all played at my bar in 2011, while Kiko Machine and Stonefree played way earlier, back when I was still not a part of the bar.
See you guys!!!
