Day 3 of the Surf and Music Festival 2012 was spent surfing! My muscles were sore all over and bruises were starting to form on my left knee and here and there on my legs but aside from being there for the music and my friends, I was also there for the surf, so surf I did!

Preparing to Surf

I passed on the drinking til the wee hours of that Saturday morning so I could have enough rest and wake up early with enough energy to actually paddle but I still woke up at 10 AM! Nevertheless, after a cup of coffee and tapsilog I was out in the sun and sea.

Welcome back to Surfing!

No matter how small the waves are, I never go out to surf without an instructor. I’ve learned it the hard way. I was once at Monaliza Point some years back, had a really long ride that brought me near the shore and the corals and rocks, and made the mistake of paddling out in the wrong direction when I was wiped out to the point of drowning. Good thing I had Anthony Valdez as my instructor then so he came out to help me. I haven’t been to the point since then. I’m building up some stamina and some courage for that. Also, there were so many people out during the festival that accidents were almost inevitable and H had broken a board in two the day before. My best friend on this trip was Tinay.

My muscles were all sore by this time so I took my time standing on the board.

Our friends went to Bacnotan for lunch and I was dreaming of classic pancit canton too so we headed over to Sea Nymph for that pancit canton fix.

Along with a chicken salad and a Rhum Cola bucket, lunch was perfect!

We haven’t been able to go on the internet the entire time because the network either had poor signal at Sebay and San Juan Surf, or congested, but we found the mobile internet a little bit better at Sea Nymph. So, tweet away!

Our friends were back from their lunch at River Farm Seafood Restaurant in Bacnotan too so we all hung out at San Juan Surf Resort again for our afternoon drinks.

I remembered that our friend Ver, who is now based in Boracay, said we should take a lot of photos, and we really haven’t taken enough, so I decided it was time to take a few photos of the beach in daylight. No other day but that day!

After some long rides, some drops, and a couple of abandoned waves because I made the mistake of looking down and seeing how steep the drop was, I called it a day.

It was a fitting ending to the “Surf All Day” part of the Surf and Music Festival.

I wouldn’t have had it any other way. The trip was just perfect.

I did think about surfing again on Sunday morning before we left on the bus back to Manila, but my friends and I stayed up til 5 in the morning and I woke up at 11, so plans had to be abandoned.

But I’m back and pretty soon will be seeing more of the surf.

Notes:
The first photo was taken with a Samsung Note.
The morning surfing photos were taken with a borrowed Canon PowerShot G12 camera.
I use a Nikon D90 with a 50mm lens defaulted to auto ISO and f/1.8
For the wide angle shots, a 18-135mm lens is used defaulted to f/3.5 (because the blades are missing) pagalingan na lang sa pag-adjust ng shutter speed. Sometimes I put on a .5x Vitacon wide angle converter for that funky vignette, as well as the barrel distortion and graininess. Wink.
