As of posting, my daughter and I are on our way to Hong Kong on a Cebu Pacific flight. There, we will meet up with H, who is flying straight from Texas – fresh from a Manny Pacquiao fight live, no, actually, fresh from a week-long last quarter meeting with his team. The Manny Pacquiao fight was just a bonus, since it incidentally fell on the same weekend they were in Arlington – where their office is located.
Actually, as of posting, H does not know we will be in Hong Kong. I just made this trip up on the spot. Nah, actually we talked about it but I was apprehensive about finalizing plans. It just dawned on me Sunday night that this might just be a good enough trip for the family to take. One, free hotel accommodations. Two, free round-trip flight for H. I only have to pay for my plane ticket and since Lia is still an infant, I only have to pay P400 for her round-trip. This was a good-enough time to go. One we might not take in a long time.
My last trip to Hong Kong was, surprisingly, seven years ago. It was a trip I made with my sister Jasmin and cousin Karroll. I had thought about coming back for a quick visit so many times in the past but I have never managed to make up my mind. This is a good enough time to come back.
All day yesterday, I talked to friends about hotel accommodations, transportation and miscellaneous information. This is because I need a place to stay while I wait for H to arrive. I take it he is arriving sometime later than we are. His Globe roaming service is not working and I will have to wait for him to get online for him to know what I’ve been up to (and knowing me I’m always up to something – but this time, I’ve been up to LOTS!)
So I was busy looking at hotels, maps and shat, when wonder of wonders, my cousin pops up on Yahoo Messenger. We stayed with her when we were there back in 2003. They had a flat in the heart of Central and she was working then at the Sheraton hotel.
When Lia and I arrive in Hong Kong, we will take the bus to Tung Chung, travel to Mui Wo and stay for a bit in Lantau Island while waiting for H to get us. I have booked and printed our tickets, packed our luggage, prepaid for excess baggage since when I weighed the stroller that I will be carrying around for the very first time, I found out that it alone weighs 5 kg. I have readied our passports, Lia’s birth certificate, contact numbers, directions, instructions; and got information on taxes and exchange rates. I am ready to activate roaming services and have gotten the number of minutes of travel time as well as costs. I have prepared Lia’s things (which I have just unpacked last night after we arrived from a weekend trip to Subic with my sister’s families) and I think we are all set! I hope I have not overlooked or forgotten anything. I hope everything will turn out fine.
I don’t know where we are going. I am not too excited to go to Ocean Park or Disneyland. I am not too excited to go shopping (since I have no money whatsoever!) – but I have missed riding the trams up and down the island, missed walking through the parks, missed eating fresh cherries – and most of all, I have missed the wonderful smell of Hong Kong. I have absolutely loved the smell of Hong Kong for some reason. Maybe that’s enough reason to go back.
