Atop the Philcoa Overpass, life goes on as usual; a vendor waits for her toys to be sold, a street hustler invites passersby to solve a puzzle that doesn’t seem to have any solution, and an evangelist shouts hallelujah and asks for some meager change so that everybody’s soul can be saved.

For the photo documentation for the Virgin Labfest 6, I made it a point to get there early so I could pick a good seat. I watched each show or set twice so I would know where to sit to get the best angles or shots. For this particular show on July 2nd, I had asked the usher if I could sit in the center front row; but I was told the center front rows were reserved so I had to content myself with sitting on the front row of stage right.
I was able to take good photos of the previous play of the same set, Isagani, because the usher told me the guests for whom the front row seats have been reserved had not arrived yet. I was allowed to sit on the center front row. Come Balunbalunan, Bingibingihan, I was asked to return to my seat.
That was just my luck, because I was seated right in front of the big prop window, with all my views to the actors on the center of the stage blocked. It was really frustrating.
Here are the photos I managed to take nevertheless.
All of them are really too dark, I like to think these photos are studies on chiaroscuro.

Stage Manager: Wilmark Oliver Tabio
Sound Designer: Sharon Perlas
Costume Consultant: Ram Tolentino
Set Designer: Myka Francisco
Choreographer: Arnie Umayam
Bembol Roco as Gilbey’s
Missy Maramara as Brandy
PJ Paule as Whiskey

(I had personally liked this part about writing on the floor so I took a photo of it.)
Gilbey’s and Brandy, 20 yrs apart, are husband and wife, pimp and whore, who love each other dearly.

(This is just to show how bad my seat was.)

I know these photos are long overdue, but after week after week after week after week of being busy, I am finally sitting down to look at the photos from the Virgin Labfest 6 and post them. Here are some of the shots.
First, a few shots of the set.

Isagani
written by Alex Dorola Yasuda
directed by Vince Tanada
Stage Management by Art Gabrentina
Cast:
John San Antonio as Isagani
Kierwin Larena as Lalaki
A stand-up comedian in one of those tawdry sing-along bars in Malate harbors a secret. Only the mute Miraculous Grotoo beside Baclaran church hears his stand-up lament after his comical stint at the bar. His prayer turns into a confession to a drug pusher, who peels off his comic mask slowly revealing a dark and terrible past. Unable to run away from the past that just keeps catching up with him, he cannot extinguish with all his comic quips and gags the horror he seeks to deny. No matter how profoundly he expiates for his crime, he ritualizes this scene every night much like his performance in the bars. This is a story of religious faith and a profound desire for change, a solipsistic reflection on remorse and the difficult striving to be whole again.

WARNING: This post is for and for mommies only. If you’re not a mom, stay away from this post.
I don’t really talk much about my daughter in my blog. Or if I do, I try to keep it to a minimum; but this post is all about mommyhood and if you’re not a mom, you will not be able to relate. If you are going to be a mom, reading might give you some insights. As for all the others, you have been warned.
Today I am one very proud momma. Today, it seemed like I have toilet-trained Lia.

A month or so ago, I saw the following signs (This is a list I took from this site):
- Your child can pull his or her pants down and then up again.
Lia has actually been able to put clothes on and off herself for a long time now. When she is sleeping for the night or her naps, I have to check on her every so often to see if she still has her clothes on. You have to understand that my daughter sleeps on her own and by herself. We just put her in her crib every time she needs to sleep and she falls asleep on her own. We never have to carry or rock her to sleep. It’s always been that way after I stopped breastfeeding her at eight months (not by choice but due to my own health), it took forever to put her to sleep when I rocked her to sleep and she was too heavy for me to carry so I just ended giving her a bottle and she fell asleep on her own. After that, she could not fall asleep as long as someone was inside the room. We always had to close the door as a signal that it was sleeping time and not playtime and that she had to go to sleep. So now, every time she is asleep, no one is allowed to go inside the room until she wakes up and calls out.
Lia is now able to put clothes on that she even sometimes puts my own blouses on her. (Did you see that photo of her wearing my blouse on my birthday? She put that on herself.)

I found this link off Twitter (where I actually am in more often than Facebook) and found it very helpful. I wanted to share it with you guys, in case you are interested. I have always said I am such a poor student of photography and only lately have I been reading on things. I am really grateful for blogs such as this one.
Here is an excerpt from the article:
I’ve gotten in the habit of spending 10 or 15 seconds checking my camera settings before I shoot. Of course, all cameras are different (as are shooting styles), so this is just my own personal checklist of things I look at. Yours may be different, but the point is that you should have that habit of checking the settings prior to releasing the shutter. Here’s a rundown of what I look at and how I typically set my camera.
- Priority Mode
- Shutter/F-number
- Exposure Compensation
- ISO speed
- Drive mode
- Autofocus Mode/Area
- Meter mode
- Color space
- White balance
- Battery power
- File format
- Remaining shots
These are just the things I quickly glance over before shooting. Other cameras and other photographers will have different needs and different checklists. But the point is that you should have some sort of camera setting checklist burned into your mind.

The 2010 Travel Factor Olympics started at eight in the morning, but since it’s Ryan’s last day before a week-long business trip abroad, I thought it necessary for him to spend the morning playing with our daughter as well as catching up on sleep. We missed the Frisbee and Tug-of-War games.
The schedule said volleyball was going to start at two o’clock so I thought it was safe to leave the house after putting Lia down for her afternoon nap and catch the first volleyball game. The rain started pouring really, really hard as we were closing our front door and getting into the car. We got to the Marikina Sports Park sometime past two o’clock, just in time for the second round of volleyball games: UBBE vs CONQUER. We had missed our own. The SURFVIVOR vs PHOTOHOLIC volleyball game started at one o’clock, Tikoy said. I had really wanted Ryan to play volleyball. I don’t play any other sports myself, and I am especially disinterested in anything with balls like basketball, volleyball, football, billiards, tennis so on and so forth. I just really suck at sports and I get tired really easily. Anyone ever noticed how I do not have a category for sports?
While the other teams played, Ryan, Ver and I had a food trip inside the complex. I have been especially addicted to siomai the past days and have been looking for lugaw or goto the past weeks.
Ryan got to play volleyball in the game for third and fourth place, UBBE vs PHOTOHOLIC. 15-weeks pregnant Sheila and non-sporty me, along with a couple of other Photoholic team members had a grand time cheering on our team and I really must say that I was absolutely entertained.

I finally finished my blogs on Lia and I’s trip to El Nido, Palawan last April. It took a long time but I finally finished! One trip crossed out (or checked off) the travel blogs to-do list …and yet more to go!
I had a lot of pictures so I had to separate the entries.
I can do this. One little blog at a time.
Here is a photo of me with my Potter’s Place family, taken at the mess hall right after graduation. You can see some of the togas hanging out in the back… and I still have my long hair…

Photo blogs on the VLF 6 – long overdue
Happy Days Ahead – new music from theater friends I happened to come by during VLF6 (Thanks William and Victor)
Travel Factor Olympics
Perhaps, my take on Toy Story 3, Eclipse and Inception. Just perhaps. Though mind you, these are not reviews. Just my personal thoughts on the movies I caught on theaters the past weeks, of which I have not been able to write about.
My husband will be away on business trips to China and Japan so I guess I’ll not be having my usual schedule. Though perhaps more specifically, I’ll not be eating so much as I won’t have my cook around. *straight face goes here*
