Lia turns 13 months today and I took some time to go over the 13-18 months milestone chart from Baby Center.

At 13 months, these are the things Lia can do:

  • Bends over and picks up an object
  • Holds out arm or leg to help you dress her
  • Combines words and gestures to make needs known
  • Rolls a ball back and forth
  • Eats with fingers
  • Empties containers of contents
  • Imitates others
  • Initiates games
  • Responds to instructions (e.g., “give me a kiss”)
  • Uses a spoon or fork
  • Matches lids with appropriate containers
  • Pushes and pulls toys while walking
  • Plays with ball
  • Runs
  • “Helps” around the house (her favorites are the broom and dust pan)
  • Turns the pages of a book
  • Has temper tantrums when frustrated
  • Becomes attached to a soft toy or other object (she has been since 8 months)
  • Discovers the joy of climbing (she’s been doing this forever)
  • Uses spoon or fork
  • Learns the correct way to use common objects (e.g., the cellphone)
  • Takes off one piece of clothing by herself
  • Gets finicky about food
  • Throws a ball underhand
  • Dances to music (and she dances real well, now with hands, feet, legs and head movement!)
  • Kicks ball forward
  • Will “read” board books on her own
  • Brushes teeth with help
  • Throws a ball overhand (she plays ball with Ewok, our dog)

Her motor skills are quite advanced though her language skills are not, as she does not seem to say anything else other than “Hi” and “Mama”. She says Mama over and over and over again all the time. She is very attached to her Mama. Hahaha. She does not say Papa or Dada at all, much to Ryan’s dismay. She calls Ewok our dog, Woo, though and her favorite stuff toy, a white sheep, Tutu. And she calls other dogs by “Du!!”

Over-all, I’m very happy about how she is developing and growing. Just the fact that she sings along to music and dances really really really well makes me so proud! Black eyed peas is currently her favorite. 🙂
